Guide : how to choose the right watchband ?
The value and aesthetics of your watch depends of course largely on its mechanism and dial. However, the strap also plays an important role, it dresses your wrist as well as the watch you are wearing and reinforces the cachet and elegance of the latter. It is therefore important to choose it well and here are some tips to do so.
The dimensions
The dimensions of the watch band are the width, also called the lugs and the length. The first is expressed in millimeters and ranges from 18 to 22 millimeters. You should choose this width according to the lugs of your watch and, preferably, take a slightly narrower strap so that it can turn easily and keep the watch flexible.
The length of the strap ranges from 15 to 19 centimeters for men and 13 to 18 centimeters for women. If you have a “standard” wrist size, you don’t have to worry about the length of the strap, but this issue becomes important as soon as you have a thicker or thinner than average wrist. In this case, you should look for a watchband with a suitable length or adjust your own by adding perforations for example.
The material
As for the material, it all depends on the type and style of watch. For a classic watch, choose noble materials such as leather and steel or precious metals. Here again, you have a choice of many types and colors of steel and leather that you should adapt to the color and style of your watch. Nylon, rubber or silicone straps are best reserved for more sporty and less formal watches.
The buckle
For the buckle of a leather watch band, you have the choice between the pin buckle, the most classic and elegant. However, it requires the strap to be the right length and it is somewhat complicated to put on.
The butterfly or folding buckle is more practical, as it allows you to adjust the length of the bracelet once and for all and to open and close it with one hand.
